Read Time:13 Minute, 10 Second

In the podcast “The History of Social Media,” hosts Kelsey Miller and Pilar Vidal explore the history of social media. From Facebook to YouTube, they break down how these websites have changed the world – and what’s next for social media in the future.

What is Social Media?

Social media is a way to communicate with others online. It started as Facebook in 2004, but has since evolved into other platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

Social media has been around for a while now, but it has only recently become a widespread phenomenon. Back in 2004, Facebook was the first social media platform. It was created by Mark Zuckerberg and operated through a website.

Since then, social media platforms have proliferated and changed dramatically. In 2006, Twitter was launched as a microblogging platform. It allowed users to send short messages (known as tweets) to each other. Instagram was launched in 2010 and is considered one of the most popular social media platforms today. It allows users to post photos and videos that can be shared with others. YouTube was founded in 2005 and is currently the world’s biggest video sharing site. It allows users to upload, share, and view videos.

As social media continues to grow in popularity, it has also sparked controversy. Some people argue that social media is addictive and can be damaging to your mental health. Others argue that social media is a valuable way to connect with friends and family outside of traditional forms of communication like phone calls or text messages. There

The Beginning of Social Media: Facebook

Facebook was founded on October 4th, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin. The website originally allowed students to connect with each other at school, but it soon grew to be much more than that. Facebook now has over 2 billion active users worldwide, making it one of the most popular websites in the world.

In 2006, Facebook introduced the first version of the Facebook page. This allowed businesses and organizations to create a page for themselves and share news, events, and useful information with their followers. In 2010, Facebook launched its official app for iPhone and Android devices which further enhanced the user experience.

In 2011, Facebook announced that it would be acquiring Instagram for $1 billion. Instagram is a photo-sharing social media platform with a global audience of over 50 million people. This acquisition made Facebook one of the largest technology companies in the world.

In 2012, Facebook rolled out its new Timeline feature which gave users a more personalized experience by organizing their posts by year instead of by month. Later that year, Facebook introduced Messenger which allows users to communicate with each other directly without having to leave the website.

In 2013, Facebook acquired Oculus VR for $2 billion which gave the company access to virtual

Twitter: From 140 Characters to 280

Twitter has been around for over 7 years now, and in that time it has evolved from a limited platform used mainly by business people to a global communication tool. In this blog post, we will explore the history of social media and how it has changed over the years.

Twitter started out as a simple way to share short messages with friends. The first tweet was sent on March 21, 2006 and was just a test message from Twitter founder Jack Dorsey. Over the years, Twitter has grown into a communication tool that is used by millions of people all over the world.

One of the main reasons why Twitter has become so popular is its brevity. Each tweet is limited to 140 characters, which makes it easy to share information quickly. This limitation also makes it easy to understand and RT (re-tweet) other people’s tweets.

Another important feature of Twitter is its timeline. This timeline shows you all the tweets that have been sent from a particular account over the past period of time. This information can be useful when you are trying to find information about a specific topic.

Twitter also offers users the ability to create blogs and podcasts. These blogs and podcasts allow users to share their thoughts

YouTube: The Biggest Video Platform on the Internet

YouTube has been around since 2005 and is one of the most popular video platforms on the internet. It’s also one of the oldest social media platforms, predating Facebook by a few years.

The origin story of YouTube is a bit nebulous. Some say it was developed as a collaboration between four students at UCLA, while others claim it was created by two students at UC Berkeley. Regardless of its origins, YouTube quickly became popular due to its simple user interface and the wealth of videos available on the site.

In 2007, YouTube released its first official app for mobile devices. This led to an explosion in popularity for YouTube among mobile users, who could watch videos without having to visit the website.

In 2013, Google purchased YouTube for $1 billion. This gave YouTube access to Google’s massive data resources and allowed YouTube to continue growing rapidly.

Today, YouTube is one of the most popular video platforms on the internet and is used by millions of people every day. It has become an essential part of many people’s online lives and is sure to continue growing in popularity
